History and distinctive features

The churchyard beside the medieval village church served as Marienfelde’s burial ground until October 1889, when a new cemetery opened north of the village green. Historic monuments and the family burial plot of landowner Adolf Kiepert survive; the Kiepert plot continued to be used after 1889.
