Finding a grave

For a grave-location enquiry, contact the responsible cemetery administration at friedhof@ba-mitte.berlin.de. Give the deceased person’s name, the cemetery and any known birth, death or burial dates; ask for the section and plot number. After the resting period or plot rights expire, an administrative search incurs a charge even if it is unsuccessful.

Cemetery administration and contact

Mitte borough cemetery administration, Dohnagestell 9, 13351 Berlin.

Grave types and allocation

Selected and row urn plots, semi-anonymous urn plots with 20 years of trust-funded care, anonymous communal urn plots, a communal ashes area and Islamic and Alevi selected coffin plots.

Allocation of grave rights

Plot rights are normally acquired for 20 years. Selected and family plots may be extended; row and communal plots cannot be extended. Arrange the particular plot type and available space with the responsible administration.

Costs and cemetery fees

Calculated examples under the 2026 tariff for a new plot and one interment without a ceremony: selected coffin plot €857, selected urn plot €669, row urn plot €639, anonymous communal urn plot €704. They include the €52 administration charge, basic cemetery fee and interment; provision and maintenance are also included where required for that plot type. If the cemetery cannot store a coffin, the coffin-interment charge is reduced by €15. A ceremony of up to 30 minutes normally adds €159. Special burial and care arrangements have additional costs according to the chosen scheme. Memorials, additional services, cremation and funeral-director costs are excluded. New charges take effect on 1 January 2027; the tariff in force when the application is received determines the charge.

Funeral dates and ceremonies

Urn interments on Tuesdays and Thursdays; Islamic and Alevi burials on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Funeral hall and chapel

The funeral hall has 24 seats and 5 standing places. A music system and a wheelchair are available.

Grave care and local services

For a selected plot, clarify individual care arrangements when the plot is allocated. Where communal graves are offered, maintenance of the shared green area is part of that arrangement.
